In my previous blog on “Bankruptcy in India’s Humanity,” I had put forward my observations regarding the indifferent attitude of the Indian polity regarding the widespread, state-sponsored, inhuman intolerance and hatred against non-violent Sanatani Hindus in Bangladesh. However, now, after the arrest of ISKCON Saint Chinmoy Krishna Das by the Bangladesh government, a segment of the Indian polity has arisen to express solidarity with the tortured Hindu masses in Bangladesh and anger against the oppressive actions of the Bangladesh government. This segment, expressing concern about the helpless Hindus in Bangladesh, is often labeled as “Hindu fundamentalist” in India.
The large segment of secularists who readily express solidarity with the Palestinian population in the Middle East, and are even ready to rush there physically to fight against Israel, are strangely silent against the ongoing inhuman torture of Hindus in our neighboring country, Bangladesh. Bengalis, often proud of their nationalism and secularism, have become seemingly biased. They are ready to align with Palestinian Muslims but hesitant to express brotherhood and solidarity with the tortured Hindu brothers and sisters in Bangladesh.
Internationally, Sanatani Hindus have been recognized as amongst the most non-violent people in the world. ISKCON is an organization devoted to spreading love and affection globally, as propagated by Bhagwan Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. However, the Bangladesh government is reportedly preparing to declare it a terrorist organization. The entire world considers the current head of state in India as a champion of world peace, but so far, no visible effective action from his side to relieve the plight of Bangladeshi Hindus has been seen. The present dispensation in India notified a Citizenship Amendment Act a few years ago, with provisions to provide citizenship to minorities whose lives are in danger in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. If the Indian government is sincere about ensuring the protection of life and property of Bangladeshi Hindus, it must intervene and rescue the endangered Hindus in Bangladesh.
The Islamists in Bangladesh are advocating for the elimination of all Hindus to make the country “Hinduless,” or, as an alternative, forcing them to convert to Islam. The Bangladesh government appears to be a passive supporter of this persecution. This is a war against humanity. The suffering of Hindus in Bangladesh has its roots in the political decision taken in 1947 in New Delhi by the then-government of India without their consent. Therefore, the responsibility for alleviating their suffering rests on the government of India. The government of India must take positive action promptly before it is too late and lakhs of Bangladeshi Hindus are slaughtered by Islamic fundamentalists.
The proponents of humanity in India, as well as in developed countries in the West and other countries, are busy with the resettlement of Palestinian Muslims by proposing separate territories carved out of Israel. But they remain indifferent and blind to the torture and inhuman slaughter of Hindus in Bangladesh.
In this situation, Hindus in India, Bangladesh, and other countries see hope in the current Indian head of state as the only savior for their safety and security. The present dispensation, which claims to be adept at diplomacy, must utilize its diplomatic expertise to stop the torture and violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, either through bilateral discussions or by raising the issue of Bangladeshi Hindus in the UN, as Pakistan does with regards to Jammu and Kashmir. For a permanent solution, the government must advocate for a separate and autonomous territory for Hindus in Bangladesh, proportionate to the Hindu population, similar to how a separate territory in Gaza, Israel, has been demarcated for Palestinian Muslims.
The Indian government must take decisive action in this regard and should not wait for concurrence from political factions engaged in the politics of pseudo-secularism and minority appeasement. Every day of delay costs humanity in Bangladesh with the loss of thousands of Hindu lives.
